CSUC Hands-On Lab: Rocks and Minerals...

Our first field trip! Finally! We took a journey today to California State University, Chico to visit the Hands-On Lab for a day of rock and mineral study. The students and I first took a tour of the campus (oh, what a library!), then had a quick lunch in the “auditorium” next to the creek. With fifteen minutes left before our lab was to begin, we had a recess-style break while enjoying the many fallen leaves in Children’s Park. The students (all of Room 36, plus 1/4 of Room 35) did a fantastic job on the trip, earning THREE compliments in the hallway from passerbys while we waited for our lab techs to escort us inside! “This is the most well-behaved class I’ve seen waiting for the lab!” The best part? We get to come back in February for an electricity lab!

So what do Room 36 students want to do when they’re older? According to those of us who dressed up on Friday, we want to be teachers, singers, scientists, counselors, rock stars, veterinarians, authors, skateboarders, football players, models, video game writers, and hippies!
